The first day of winter is only a few days away and here at Vespa Portland that can only mean one thing…our favorite event is back for the SIXTH year in a row; the sixth annual Winter Riders Challenge! Starting December 21st and ending March 20th.
This year we are excited to welcome our neighbors to the north in Tacoma, South Sound Scooters, to their very first Winter Riders Challenge! This year they’ll be joining us in some friendly competition. At the end of the challenge, we’ll compare our riders average mileage to South Sound’s to see who comes out on top and gets 2024 bragging rights.
Let’s show them what we’re made of Portland!
WHAT IS IT?
The rider with the most miles ridden between December 21st, 2023 and March 20th, 2024 wins! This year we have rewards for everyone who signs up and special prizes for different mileage tiers. Whoever rides the most miles at the end of the challenge wins 1st place and the grand prize.
Final odometer readings must be given to Vespa Portland by March 20th, 2024 to be counted toward the final mileage totals. Due to the nature of the competition, no grace period after March 20th can be allowed.
No purchase necessary. The competition is open to all modern and vintage scooter riders in the Portland, OR area. Vespa Portland staff will also be riding in the competition but are not eligible to win.
HOW DO I SIGN UP?
Send us a picture of your odometer on Wednesday, December 21st, on Facebook, Instagram, email at info@vespaportland.com, or text us at 503-222-3779. You can also stop by the shop with your scooter and we’ll check your odometer in person. You can start the challenge after December 21st if you choose, but youâll be starting at a disadvantage.
HOW DO I TRACK MY PROGRESS?
As often as youâd like, check in with us to have your total miles updated. You can either stop by Vespa Portland or send us an updated photo. Weâll post standings periodically throughout the winter season to show who is on top!
RIDE RESPONSIBLY
While enjoying this friendly yet likely chilly competition, please note that we do not recommend anyone ride in snowy or icy conditions and that caution should be exercised while riding in cold conditions in general. Vespa Portland is not liable for any damages or injuries that may result from participating in the Winter Riders Challenge.
Thanks and ride safe!

Here’s tips on how to wash your Vespa scooter. Don’t complain too much in the comments if this isn’t up to your standard of clean. đ One thing we forgot to mention: DO NOT use Armor All on your tires. It can make them extremely slick and cause a crash.
Safety! Not the sexiest topic but a very important one. Learn how to ride your Vespa safer by utilizing The Smith System, a driving program created for commercial drivers.
A grip lock may help keep your scooter secure when youâre not around to keep an eye on it.
The 2020 Vespa Sprint 150 is a very capable scooter that will take you through urban and rural environments with ease. In this video we ride from Vespa Portland to Sugarpine Drive In in Troutdale, OR before continuing on the Historic Columbia River Highway. The Sprint handles it all, no problem.
The partnership between one of the most creative and influential designers and the brand symbolic of italian style comes to fruition with a special series of Vespas.
Vespa Primavera Sean Wotherspoon is a special and limited edition that expresses all the creative energy of both Vespa and Sean. These stars of their time are united by a love of colour and innovative experimentation that anticipates tomorrow’s trends and appeals to anyone who loves to play with fashion and ride in style.
On the steel body of Vespa Primavera, Sean creates a new style for the young urban tribes, but one with a capacity to win over a much wider audience. Sean gives Vespa style elements a vintage contemporary twist in what is his trademark manner. He does this by drawing on his love of everything old school, using a kaleidoscopic mix&match approach rooted in the ’80s and ’90s.
There is also scope for a blend of materials including metal, plastic, velvet and rubber. In pure Vespa tradition, the body is made of steel, a distinguishing mark of the Vespa right from its inception. The red foot board (in the same colour as the shock absorber), in plastic and with a blue rubber insert, stands out on the metal body.
Sean Wotherspoon is one of the rising stars of youth fashion in the United States. He is pure energy, unstoppably curious, ahead of the times, an experimenter and a fanatic of street culture and of everything it can encompass, street, fashion and colours.
Wotherspoon has chosen a light brown ribbed velvet for the saddle. To this he has added a white finish and his distinctive logo, a real street artist’s tag, placed on the front alongside the classic Vespa logo in white.
Sean Wotherspoon Vespa Primavera will be available to order in April 2020. You can view more details and specs here.
